Textile Printing finds its early existence in the seventeenth century in India. However, some findings suggest that colourful printing of fabrics existed in Rajasthan even during the fourteenth and fifteenth century. Jaipur has been one of the leading centres of Hand block printed textile for more than 500 years. The opulent cultural heritage of the city is distinctly evident even today in its exquisite textile prints. Elegant as they are, the prints of Jaipur are directly influenced by the royalty who at one time formed the niche clientele.
A harmonious blend of a variety of elaborate yet sophisticated designs in delicate shades on a single piece of cloth place the prints in a class of their own. Today, Jaipur prints are internationally recognised for their ethnic designs on pure cotton and silk base with the help of natural and vegetable based dyes.
The Two locations in the Jaipur district of Rajasthan, viz Sanganer and Bagru have been internationally recognised for their traditional style of printing known as Sanganeri prints and Bagru prints respectively. The old traditional of hand block printing make the apparels attractive and artistic while the colors give an extraordinary and fine effect to it. The traditinal motifs such as 'Boota' 'Booti' and 'jaal' are very popular in foreign as well as indian markets.
